Image To Sound 2: Earth
BFW is proud to present the new collaboration between Burning Artist and Emerald Adrift, a unique mix of ambient soundscapes and dark electronics.
Burning Artist is the ambient/experimental sound artist alter ego of the Burning Artist(s) Sale. Work on this album started sometime late in 2010, when images of earth were used to create MIDI/musical elements for the two longer pieces. This is the type of geek stuff that Burning Artist thrives on. Another key element to the Burning Artist part of this album is the Marsynth Morris Box synth (Burning Artist(s) Sale edition). Again, more evidence of the high geek quotient that Burning Artist revels in.
Burnt Emeralds is an ongoing collaboration between Emerald Adrift and Burning Artist/Killer Haven. Without the very great contribution of Emerald Adrift, this album would probably have never been released. Burning Artist is thankful for the masterful work on “a second glimpse.”

Post blues or post-soul would decree the English critic Simon Reynolds if he had the opportunity to listen to the album that is by editing AguasTónicas soon or better yet, witness the band live. As it is unlikely that this (that Reynolds will listen) happen in the short term, it is necessary to say a few things: the music of AguasTónicas has almost nothing to 'post' and a lot of 'pre'. It says nothing of the end of an era, but speaks of a time to come, in which some things are similar to before, and others will change our lives forever. In short: they are songs to accompany those who make the decision to change their lives. It is, perhaps, the soundtrack of an organic world, constructivist, utopian, in which the single thought is abolished and only serve to make soy patties. For now we have to settle with the music.

Yes! We are happy to announce that The Chain volume one is out now. An amazing album with artwork designed by Dan Northern tiltedsquare.com.
The Chain is a continuing collection of songs following on from one another.
A name was chosen at random from the list of musicians who wanted the take part. That musician (Spooky Child) had three weeks to write and record a completely new song.
The first song submitted was be passed along to the second musician who had three weeks to create a second song inspired by or using parts of the first song.
The second song was passed along to the third musician who created a third song inspired by or using parts of the second song.
And so on...
The only people to hear each song will be the person who creates it, the next person in the chain and 'the team' here at BFW recordings. To that end, we only publish a finished song once three more songs are complete - hence, now that 13 songs are finally complete, we are releasing the first 10 as The Chain volume 1.
The Chain is an ongoing project and we are still looking for musicians who can and want to take part. If you want to take part or have any questions, send us a message at bfwrecordings@gmail.com. Please mark your email 'The Chain' so we know you want to be involved.
Something quite special.
After their recent success playing the first ever BFW live online concert, four of the members of Swedish electronic music collective Dogma Noveau have collaborated on this unique and brilliant album.
Each artist presents an original song which is then remixed by other three artists, producing a sixteen track album of glitchy, minimal ambient electronica.

Record everything! That is the rule I try to live by.
The music on this album was recorded in one week in March 2012, a week when I was rather unwell and thought I had done very little other than take my cold medicine and watch TV in bed.
I played a few soothing tunes on the piano (well, my facsimile of a piano) from time to time, but it came as quite a surprise to find that all of this music had been recorded during that week.

A new release from Poodleplay Arkestra is always something to look forward to.
Their music, although influenced by many, Jon Hassell and Brian Eno among them, inhabits a special place all of its own. Guitars, piano, strings and soundscapes cascade around you.

The new album of quiet piano music by Daniel Land, also known as the singer and songwriter of Manchester shoegazers Daniel Land and The Modern Painters.

Daniel plays bass, along side Mark Peters and Ulrich Schnauss in Engineers and plays guitar in The Steals.
My Sad Captains is Daniel's first album of piano music, written between 1997 and 2012, and recorded over an 8 year period with help from Bing Satellites, Ian McGinn, and others.
Eko_Fisk's sixth release on BFW is, in his own words, a kind of a space opera that came to me after watching some scifi movies... I developed a plot and soundtrack in my head.
This is a collection of short ambient electronic songs.
Spacey and atmospheric but tinged with an eerie darkness.

We continue our tradition of delivering something new and interesting in the shape of the spoken word album by Graham Marlowe, backed by the stunning ambient guitar work of P.V. Herrera, better known to some of you as The Danger Girl Starship.
The release includes three bonus tracks, including two instrumental versions of tracks from the album.
The continuing adventures of Peter Jelp
Something a wee bit different from Bing Satellites.
An album of chilled, glitchy ambient music heavily inspired by All The Lost Souls, the collaboration between myself, Getzel and piper_ben.
Although this is a solo album, this collaboration has meant I have explored new avenues that I may otherwise have never have stumbled upon.
The music is comprised of several improvised performances on piano, synth and baritone guitar, using many of the tricks and tools I have used in previous albums. These recordings, however, have been mixed and, in places, heavily processed to create the glitchy ambient soundscapes that make up this album.
Also included on this album is a live set performed and broadcast live on electro-music.com as part of their Summer Solstice 2012 Concert.
The set features live versions of three songs already on this album.

A truly wonderful album!
A selection of live, improvised recordings from March, April and May 2012, performed on piano, synths, flute and clarinet plus a whole host of electronic wizardry.
My studio set up is constantly evolving and this album takes advantage of that.
This album includes two early experiment with playing live instruments (flute on 'Voices inside my head' and clarinet on 'Denner's travels in harsh static') through pitch pedals. You hear the note played plus a fifth (and sometimes and octave) above that note.
It is an interesting effect and one you will hear more of in the near future.
And yes, I am thinking of doing more 'colour' albums.

Paper-clip Mammal is a collaboration between Anthing and Chris Fordham.
Chris supplies the lyrics and vocals while Anthing supplies the music.
We hope to have more from these two in the near future.

The sound is epic - massive reverberating pads with ghostly chopped up samples and glitchy, organic microbeats.
I am reluctant to call this ambient, even though that is probably what this is closest to. This is more - the sound of changing weather in the far distance.

A kind of slow and glitchy atmospheric ambience that is at once electronic and organic.
This kind of music could be cold but I always feel with Meteer's music that we are watching a story unfold around us.

The album is made using a old hand held tape recorder and making drones out of and sampling those recordings. There is hiss and crackle, wow and flutter that could only come from such a source. This gives the album a unique atmospheric feel. Couple that with the ear and skill of a producer such as SineRider and you have an ambient masterpiece on your hands.

That loop is fed into a slowly decaying 6 bar loop which repeats the first loop every 6 bars, so that soon, there are several layers of the original phrase that interact and create new themes and melodies.
They seem to appear from nowhere, but these new melodies are destined to happen as soon as each note is played in the original 16 bar phrase.
Some musicians seems unhindered by genre and technique.
Here we have a mix of real instruments, electronics and vocals to produce an ever-changing and very pleasing EP.

"Though some of you may not be familiar with my work (yet), you may recognize some names in the liner notes -- Steve Peplin (guitar) and Steve Gallam (soprano sax) specifically. This album is largely a poetry/vibes "duet" record, but with a tremendous amount of coloring from Peplin, Gallam, and a set of chimes made from discarded keys.
Corduroy Resignation is about letting things go. It's about recognizing that you have nothing left to do but press on with your life as if nothing were wrong. It's not illusory; it's liberating, actually. And that kind of liberation is something I want to share with others.
My mentor once joked that if it were 1975, I'd be rich and famous. However, "that was another time..." he said with slight resignation. The longing in his face explains what is needed to give this record its future home(s): your help.
The connection between Mike and I (captured on this recording) is just as mysterious as the genre it operates within -- something of a lost relic. But to be pessimistic about popular culture (and mainstream tastes) would essentially be defeatist, and work against the inspiration that drives this material. After all, this project is more or less the next chapter of my first poetry book, Into Light, released in August 2008.
We took our lives as far as we could to get this out into the world, but until we gather enough support to release it physically, the record cannot reach the right people. Beauty comes at the strangest of times, and this album makes it all too familiar again."

'Time' is an ambient album but it is emotive and psycheldelic, touched by Bing's love of shoegaze and experimental music. The sounds on this album come from a wide variety of sources - synths, laptop, guitar, clapped ot old keyboards and objects lying around Bing's studio in Manchester.

This is a modern take on classic C86 indie.
This won't be the last we hear of The Maybes.

A deep electronic EP that mixes dark ambient, ambient shoegaze with harder drum and bass beats (even if those beats aren't at the front of the mix).

The debut release from Kamin is a fantastic electronic journey.
There is a nice mix on this album - from dark electronica with real "synth-y" synths and real drums to beautiful ambient landscapes.
My description does this album no justice, so I would suggest you have a listen and judge for yourself!

These loops can be quite long, so as a performer I can add notes as I see fit, but only have a certain amount of control over what is heard - the rest is serendipity. This time, the whole album was recorded in one week in November 2010, with each recording around an hour long.
The latest experimental electronic album from dep.
dep uses a wide variety of sounds and techniques to create some very entertaining and original music. While at times very chilled, this music is immense - it appears to fill a huge physical space while all the while getting inside you head.

As those of you who have been lucky enough to hear SineRider's music before, a new release is always welcome. In the past, he has delivered some sublime music somewhwere on the spectrum between ambient and post rock. 'Ambivert', as the name suggests, is firmly rooted in the ambient side of things. Half an hour of chilled loveliness.

Bing Satellites starts the year with an EP of ambient piano songs. These four songs are based around generative loops where each note is played on a loop, the length of that loop varying according to its pitch. They are sparse and beautiful.
"echo" is a split album between Maybe Starry Skies and False Awakening, who share the same love for instrumental acoustic music, as well as ambient post-rock and emotional atmospheres.
The seventh release on BFW from i AM esper is perhaps the most melodic and accessible. This is much more melancholic and ambient in places. More delicate than some of the heavy drones we have heard in the past. A pretty damned wonderful EP!
Slylab, once a solo project is now a fully-fledged band. Hailing from Indionesia, they bring a bright mixture of ambient shoegaze and pop electronica to their first full release on BFW recordings.
Here is the new experimental project from Elypixa.
It would be too pretentious to compare himself to Beethoven, but he has inspired Elypixa. Beethoven continued to write, compose music after becoming deaf.
That's where Elypixa had an idea - compose an album without listening to what he does, just taking into account the knowledge of its design software.

What you have here is 43 songs! An electic mix of music from around the world, all created on the same day. A lot of ambient, electronic and experimental music but also indie, post rock, dub and psychedelia. There are pristine productions along side recordings with hiss and distortion but, all in all, over four and a half hours of fantastic new music plus a nice selection of lyrics and artwork.
Remember, none of the music on this album existed before Saturday 18th August 2012.

After the success of Album In A Day volumes 1-3, we had to do this all over again. The enthusiastic response from listeners and everyone involved is fantastic.
On Saturday 13 August 2011, musicians from around the world each wrote and record a new song, completely and from scratch in one day.
The next day, those songs were collected together as an album.
On Monday 15 August 2011, the album was released as a free download by BFW recordings under a Creative Commons licence.
The last two times we have done this has been a huge success - albums of original new ambient, electronica, indie and much more, and this album is no exception.
After the resounding success of Album In A Day volume 1, we quickly decided that we would have to try this again some time. So earlier this year, we invited musicians from around the world to each write and record a completely new song, from scratch on 19 March 2011.
All the songs would be collected together the next day and released as a free download and bit torrent on Monday 21 March 2011.
The response has been phenomenal! 27 songs from musicians all over the world and a wide range of styles as you might expect from BFW recordings.
On Saturday, 28 August 2010, several musicians from around the world each wrote and recorded a song. These songs were completely conceived and finished on that day with no pre-planning, save for marking that date on the calendar.
The next day, all the songs were collected and put together as an album.
On Monday, 30 August 2010, this album will be released as a free download by BFW recordings.

A while back, we invited BFW artists and our friends to submit songs for a BFW Christmas Album.
We left the scope for these contributions quite wide - you could write a song with a Christmas or Winter feel, or maybe a song for your love ones, or even get out the sleigh bells and croon like Nat King Cole! It just had to be an original song - we aren't doing an album of ambient Christmas carols!
What we got has astounded us.

We are delighted to welcome piper_ben to BFW recordings! His debut EP on BFW is an interesting mix of experimental ambient and mixed up house.
The debut release on BFW from Hadrocodium Wui is of course a compilation of the best tracks from some of the last ten years. This is quite unique and therefore hard to define, but here goes... This album has a chilled ambient background but is coupled with mixed up beats and percussion and an intensity and even a maniacal quality to some of the instrumentation. It draws from a whole range of influences, which makes it an ideal addition to the BFW catalogue. Get it downloaded and spend a wonderful 39 minutes in the company of Hadrocodium Wui!
The fifth release on BFW recordings from i AM esper is an altogether chilled affair. This time, the drones are much less forceful and are accompanied by delicate melodies. This is a beatiful EP. We have much more to come from i AM esper over the next few months.

This is Bing Satellites most experimental work to date.
Accidental Music volume one is a collection of three ambient soundscapes - each about half an hour long and each made up of three seperate loops mixed together. They create a sound which varies little but never quite repeats itself.
A new experimental work from musician and composer Lindenberg Munroe. His composition blends Electroacoustics, ambient and Minimalist music. And here, when we say experimental, we are talking about the likes of LaMonte Young and his contemporaries.

The debut EP on BFW from I Am The Devil. At times rauccous, at times extremely laidback - a wonderful collection of songs.
This is lovely stuff! 'Pariah' is collection of four chilled songs. At times reminiscent of Tangerine Dream, Ulrich Schnauss and a chilled Tom Middleton, this has a warm feel to it.

The third release on BFW recordings from Closer Contact is a collaboration with Meteer.
This is an expertly crafted album of abstract ambience. But don't assume that this is a cold album, beause it certainly isn't! Stripped almost completely of melody or rhythm, this is warm, friendly and quite psychedelic. What is left is minimal, beautiful and intelligent.
The second release on BFW from i AM esper is an EP of heavy guitar drones. Though having said that, this EP has a much lighter feel than the last release 'Over The Atlantic': rather than a full on aural assault, this EP is more evocative of shadows and things not quite seen. We have much more to come from i AM esper over the next few months.
The first release on BFW recordings from litmus0001 is a beautiful, lush soundscape of looping guitars and synths. Rooted in the beginnings of ambient, it draws comparison to Fripp and Eno's collaborations. But this is the work of one man, Jonathan Ewald. The music is recorded in one live take and completely improvised.

These loops can be quite long, so as a performer I can add notes as I see fit, but only have a certain amount of control over what is heard - the rest is serendipity.

The second release on BFW recordings by Manchester's Poodleplay Arkestra is another fantastic EP. And again, hard to define. This is warm ambience - the Jon Hassell/ Brian Eno influence is there, but there is something else that gives this EP a unique character.

Beautiful and chilled. 'The Snow Imposed Silence' is the wonderful new album from Cousin Silas.
Many of you will know this music from his previous releases on Fflint Central, Earth Monkey and justnotnormal, as well as appearances on several compilations. But for those of you new to this artist, this is a lush, drifting ambient album. Think of Namlook or Tangerine Dream and you are somewhere close, though this album has a unique flavour.
The second release on BFW from SineRider is a less ambient affair than his last release, 'Binary Flowers'.
'December Embers' has guitars and singing and has much more of a post-rock feel to it.
The warm ambience is still there, but this is fairly different.

The latest release from BFW recordings is a fantastic, bright, new indie pop album. Post Human Era is the work of brothers Daniel and Michael Finfer.
The is music best described as "post-pop". Influenced by artists such as Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, and Sigur Rós, their music contains elements of ambient, electro-pop, and post-rock music.
After the success of last year's classic shoegaze EP, 'Spell 336' EP, comes a second release from California's Spell 336.
Made up of newly discovered archive recordings that sound like they were just recorded, this EP is a shoegaze treat.
After the success, last September, of the first release on BFW from Ghouls 'N Eggs, the 'Drone Dance' EP, comes a second release.
More intense and glitchy electronic brain noise but this time harder and more beat oriented.
And the first 4 tracks - distorted and full on - are complimented by the end of the fourth track 'Esofago' and bonus track 'Bolofecal' which drift into a deep ambience - no drums or real beats - just beautiful.

Phillip is a prolific ambient musician, having several ambient works on CD and through various netlabels including bypass, Clinical Archives, Earth Mantra and Just Not Normal.
