DEMO POLICY
We are always looking for new, original music to release.
We say, ambient, shoegaze, experimental, electronica in the blurb but we are interested in anything new, honest and interesting.
We release all our music as free downloads under a
Creative Commons Licence
- so no one pays or gets paid -
if you came here to get rich, you came to the wrong place!
Send 2 or 3 finished tracks to BFWRecordings@gmail.com (no more than 17MB of attachments
per email please) - original songs only - no cover versions please! -
with some info about yourself and what you would like to release through BFW Recordings.
We listen to everything that is sent to us and try to reply to everyone but please be patient as this can take some time.
Sorry but cannot accept demos on CD.
If, after all that, you are still interested, we look forward to hearing from you.
ABOUT US
BFW Recordings is a brand new internet music label. We aim to share some of the best music - ambient,
shoegaze, indie, experimental, electronica - from around the world with you for free!
We're not about making money, we're about sharing great, original
music, giving creative control back to musicians and giving the listener the chance to download and listen to music for free.
We release all our music under
Creative Commons,
which means you can listen to our music, share it with your friends, play it on your radio show or podcast,
all for free as long as you give credit to the artist or artists involved (and maybe mention BFW Recordings while you're at it).
Basically, enjoy the music but don't take the piss!
BFW Recordings was initially set up as a place to host the music of
Bing Satellites,
free of gaudy or offensive advertising. It soon became apparent that there was
much more music that could, and needed to, be shared this way.
Our music is hosted by the rather wonderful
Internet Archive
which is well worth a visit. There are all sorts on there - music, films (some quality old classics), software and more - all free and
actually legal! And more recently, we have also started hosting our music with Sonic Squirrel.
They have made the set up of this site much easier.
The problem with the music industry is essentially one of greed, not by musicians or listeners, but rather by the
large record companies who have been ripping off musicians and listeners for far too long.
The time for us to take back music has come.
Free downloads are cutting into record companies excessive profits and giving creative control back to the musician and the listener.
Steve Hillage says in this interview with Last.FM that free downloads
will hurt the musician in the short term but will be beneficial in the long term because of its detrimental effect on the music industry.
Whether this is true remains to be seen.
What we can say is that BFW Recordings
among a large crop of netlabels with the same attitude. So download all the music you want from us and please share it!
And remember, when you set up a website or an internet music label, it is
very important to come up with an original name...
"...if the day ever comes when we have to compromise in any way, that's the day we close down the label."
